Prototype Idea 2

A two-piece device that connects your brain to your finger. The first piece is attached to one side of your temples and the other piece is attached to your dominant hand’s index finger.

The sweat glands from your finger generates the colours from your brain to paper. The temple piece will have electroencephalograph (EEG). EEG is typically noninvasive, with the electrodes placed along the scalp. It measures voltage fluctuations resulting from ionic current within the neurons of the brain. The waves that will be most easily able to distinguish are alpha and beta waves — alpha waves occur at around 8-12 Hz and when measured from the frontal lobe provide an estimate of how relaxed a person is, while beta waves are around 12-30 Hz and correspond to how much a person is concentrating or how alert they are.

Here is a graph of the brain wave activity that is detected from EEG.

FEHC1XAH5TU9RMD.MEDIUM

  • Delta Waves – (0.1 – 3.9 Hz) — When in a deep, dreamless sleep. Newborns sleep in this stage, adults less so.
  • Theta Waves – (4 – 7.9 Hz) — Dreaming sleep (REM), this is the goal for meditation or self-hypnosis.
  • Alpha Waves – (8 – 13.9 Hz) — Relaxed, daydreaming and watching TV.
  • Beta Waves – (14 – 30 Hz) — The awake state. Engaged in activities and conversation.
  • Gamma Waves – (31 Hz+) — Hyper alert, good for insights and higher learning.

Since the prototype I have can detect the emotions of the person EEG can be used to detect those.
